Internet Job Boards
by: Cindy McGeever

M.C.Z. -

I can understand your frustration with the reposting that goes on with the big job boards. Recruiters and employers "repost" in order to bump their listings to the top, hoping for greater visibility for their ads. This does not happen as often with niche boards.

Canceling your job alerts is one way to go, although there is a down side. You'll need to check the big boards directly for newly added positions.

There is no perfect solution to the issue you raise. Keep in mind that the internet job boards should only be one component in your job search.

Building a target list of companies you would like to work for, and then visiting their websites is a good way to find out what positions are open. Networking your way into these companies is even better. Companies do not post all of their openings, so having an inside connection may allow you to uncover the "hidden job market" that you often hear about.

Attending professional trade association meetings in your area can also lead to productive connections. Keep your job search active with a number of different tactics, and you'll find new opportunities to apply for.

They are Bogus
by: M.C.Z. Sr.

These poor excuses for employment opportunites make me sick. These "employers" or "recruiters" glut the job boards (Monster and CareerBuilder) with multiple postings per day and they are "new" postings each day for a week or longer. Then a week or so later, the same frivilous garbage is posted again, and then it's a week of the same junk. And for those of us job seekers that set-up alerts for jobs, we get slammed with these garbage emails.

Someone needs to step in to clean up this trash.

Internet Job Board Feedback
by: Maria Esposito

I had wondered about this same issue. I send my resume off and feel like it goes into a circular file somewhere. I think the advice here is good to take a look at your resume if you don't hear back from companies.

I read through the advice on this site and picked up some good tips. Reading about what a recruiter looks for and comparing my resume to that gave me ideas on how to fix it. I didn't do the resume critique but I thought about it.

I'm getting more interviews now. I think my resume is much better than it used to be.
